In 1939 Babineau first started producing this delicious and unusual product at a cannery in Basin Head, Prince Edward Island. During the war years quantities of Chicken Haddie were shipped overseas to feed Canadian soldiers.



In that part of the Maritimes local dialect, a haddock was called a 'haddie' and a small haddock was called a chick. Thus the curious name of Chicken Haddie came about. Although other white fish, i.e. Cod, Hake, Pollock, are also used, the name has stuck. Word of this tasty product has spread beyond the Maritimes and Babineaus Chicken Haddie can be found all across Canada and beyond.
